This is similar to but not the same as a previous fear we wrote about Making a Fool of yourself and looking stupid.
Of course some people might think that they are being judged by others even when they aren’t speaking, but for those sufferers public speaking just makes it worse because they are more likely to be in front of lots of people and thus (in their mind) more people are judging them – it exaggerates the problem.
Interestingly the more you express your opinion and stand up for what you are passionate about the more you need to be okay with some people not agreeing with or expressing other opinions. This gives us the opportunity to learn from them, share ideas or overcome objections – I for one believe that’s better than never having expressed your opinions or views in the first place.
Know that you cannot please everybody all of the time. You’ve heard the saying – right? “You can’t please everybody all the time” So focus only on your target audience or ideal customers and ensure they are happy.
