Speech Anxiety

17 top public speaking anxiety symptoms

Do you suffer from any or all of the following public speaking anxiety symptoms? You may be an inexperienced speaker or you may have done plenty of presentations but regardless of the experience you can still suffer from these speech anxiety symptoms which are outlined in my book:

Plenty of people suffer from these and the first thing is to know that you aren’t alone and it is normal! BUT that doesn’t mean you have to have these symptoms forever. I’ve spoken to people who worried they couldn’t move on in their career and those who considered giving up their jobs because of these symptoms. The good news is there is plenty you can do which will result in you not only no longer disliking presenting but actually being calm, clear and confident! (That’s OK I know you don’t believe me about that last bit yet!)

Public speaking fear bookOur multi-award winning, trademarked approach to public speaking training and presentation skills coaching shows you how these symptoms are caused by “Public Speaking Monkeys” those pesky voices in your head telling you “You’re not good enough”, “You’re stupid” or “You’re going to make a fool of yourself “and shows you how to tame these monkeys once and for all. Forever.

We believe that everyone can learn to do a presentation without fear and nerves.

So why do the Public Speaking Monkeys cause speech anxiety symptoms and what can you do about it? Well, there are three Golden Rules to follow to get rid of those negative voices in your head and “Tame Your Public Speaking Monkeys”.

In my book of the same name, I outline these:

Golden Rule #1 Catch Your Monkeys

This step is all about finding out negative things the monkeys are saying to you. Currently, let’s say when you learn you have a presentation, you are always unconsciously telling yourself how stupid you are – is it any wonder that you begin to feel bad? If you suffer from Imposter Syndrome or don’t think you are good enough – a presentation to a large room would make you worry and feel physically unwell. In my experience, all of the 17 symptoms can be caused by Public Speaking Monkeys.

Golden Rule #2 Connect with Your Monkeys

This is about finding out where the monkey originally came from. Your specific speech anxiety symptoms can provide us with revealing clues as to what caused you to develop your specific monkey. For example one of the more obvious links I saw was a business professional who worried about stumbling over their words. When delved deep and connected with his monkey we traced it all the way back to 7 years old when he was reading a book out loud at school and stumbled over a difficult word.

Golden Rule #3 Challenge Your Monkeys

Once you’ve done the first two steps the final piece of the puzzle is to Challenge the Monkeys and reason with them. Too many people try and do this step straight away without Catching and Connecting the issue.

By following the 3 Golden Rules our clients know what their issue is, understand where it came from and are therefore ready to let it go once and for all. By “Taming Your Public Speaking Monkeys” you eliminate the root cause of your symptoms so next time you present they don’t even get a chance to start in the first place.

Of course, there is still work to do after “Taming Your Monkeys” because even though yourself belief is no longer sabotaging your own success you do need to learn to maintain and continue your positive self-belief. And because you’ve probably been doing bad presentation habits for such a long time you will learn fast track, easy and proven ways to improve your presentations skills from preparation and structuring your presentation properly to posture and personal presence. But that’s the easy bit!

If you would like to learn how to “Tame Your Public Speaking Monkeys” then read the book or get in touch about presentation skills training with a difference today!
